Lake Tahoe Ice Skating
Lake Tahoe in winter is a beautiful white wonderland of breathtaking beauty. Snow begins to fall heavily around November time and the ski season usually lasts until May, with snow continuing to remain on the higher altitude slopes.
As well as skiing, there are a variety of other winter sports for visitors to try during their winter vacation in Lake Tahoe. Ice Skating is one such activity that is popular with families and children. There are a number of different ice rinks on both the North Shore and South Shore of Lake Tahoe.

The Olympic Pavilion at High Camp Squaw Valley overlooks the lake and is accessed by the aerial cable car. Perched on the crest of Squaw Valley’s upper mountain, it offers some spectacular views. The rink is open daily throughout the year.
At Squaw Creek Resort there is an outdoor ice rink that opens daily during the winter season, weather permitting.
South Tahoe Ice Arena offers state of the art ice skating on a full size regulation NHL sheet of ice. Public sessions are available daily, plus ice skating and ice hockey lessons are offered. This is a full service ice rink with lockers, a snack bar, retail outlets, an arcade, plus party rooms.
Heavenly Village has a new family orientated ice rink complete with boutiques and a movie theater.
The Village Ice Rink at Kirkwood is 6000 feet up in the mountains. It is an outdoor rink which opens throughout the winter subject to weather conditions and you can enjoy some glorious views while skating here. The rink is open Friday to Sunday, 10am-5pm (6pm on Saturdays).
The Village at Northstar has an all year-round ice skating rink which is great for social gatherings between friends and families. Located around the ice rink are outdoor fire pits, an s’mores kiosk, shops and restaurants. Skating here is free, but skate rental is $5. The ice rink is open days and evenings throughout the winter season, before being transformed into a roller skating rink during the summer. There is often entertainment on offer here and it is a popular venue for the après ski crowd in the winter season.
Prices for ice skating sessions will vary between different ice rinks, but a typical cost would be $6 per adult for a 2 hour session, or $9 including skate hire; children $6 including skate rental. There might be an extra charge during holiday periods.
