But for the ultimate thrill, how about parasailing high above the lake, attached to a boat by only a harness? Despite the sense of danger, parasailing is actually a very safe sport and hundreds of people try it every year. All reputable parasailing companies need to be USCG Approved.

Parasailing is a superb way of seeing the whole of Lake Tahoe valley from high up in the sky. It is a thrilling experience and definitely one you should try at least once during your vacation. You can fly as high as 1200 feet above Lake Tahoe and enjoy some spectacular views. If you have enough presence of mind and are not too busy screaming with fear, you can take a camera up and shoot some fantastic shots to show your friends and family when you finally come back down to earth. They will be mightily impressed at your bravado!

Parasailing is suitable for pretty much everyone, subject to a maximum weight restriction of 300Ibs. Those weighing less than 90Ib will be taken up in a tandem harness as long as the total weight does not exceed 300Ib’s. The oldest known person who has parasailed on Lake Tahoe was 93, so beat that if you dare!

If you are feeling the summer heat, you can ask to be dipped in the lake when you come back down, or you can elect to stay dry and preserve your dignity—it is entirely up to you!

Naturally prices will vary between companies operating around the lake resorts, but for an 8 minute standard flight up to a height of 400 feet, you can expect to pay around $50. To fly higher, up to around 1200 feet, it will be more expensive at around $75. An observer is usually allowed to accompany the person parasailing for a small fee of around $15.
