There are many trails that intersect the foothills and upper levels of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Some are considered moderate in difficulty, others such as the Bayview Trail, which crosses the Wilderness, are classed as difficult. A permit is required for access to the Wilderness area of Lake Tahoe.
If you choose to take an accompanied trail ride with one of the many stables in the Lake Tahoe Area, you will be guaranteed an unforgettable experience, taking in some wonderful views and scenery while on horseback.
How about a breakfast ride with a crisp early morning ride followed by a hearty western breakfast cooked over a campfire, dished up with cowboy coffee? Or maybe a steak ride where the kids will love the excitement of trekking through the forests before the enjoyment of a western steak barbeque.
You can ride for an hour, two hours, a half day, or a full day. The choice is yours and all stables will cater for families, complete novices, or experienced riders. They have quiet horses for nervous riders, spirited horses for those who like a thrill, and for those people who don’t like to ride there are always horses who don’t want to be ridden!
All trail rides are only suitable for children 6/7, or above. There is also an upper weight limit of 225Ib for riders. For smaller children aged between 2 and 6, some stables offer pony rides. Prices vary a great deal so it is always a good idea to call the stable of your choice and make inquiries before you go along. It is essential to make a prior reservation for all rides to ensure availability.
By the time you have trekked up some steep trails with the sun peeking through the pine trees and the water glinting on the surface of the lake far below, you will be more than ready for the sizzling steak barbeque and cold beer.
