Annual Shakespeare Festival
(July 9th - August 22, 2010) Lake Tahoe

The annual Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival held in July and August makes the most of the stunning scenery by giving locals and visitors the chance to see both classic and contemporary performances of the Great Bard’s work, plus a host of other exciting musical and theatrical shows, all set against the backdrop of Lake Tahoe.

The inaugural Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival took place in 1972, at Sugar Pine Point State Park. Four years later, the festival moved to a new location at Sands Harbor State Park, where it remains to this day.

Lake Tahoe Annual Shakespeare Festival -- Continue

This summer, delighted audiences will have the unique opportunity to see the complete works of William Shakespeare (abridged), performed under the direction of the 2010 Producing Artistic Director, Charles Fee. Performances will take place every Monday and Friday night at Sand Harbor and will include a hilariously entertaining musical mix of blues, jazz, classic 70’s rock, Latin rhythm, the Reno Philharmonic, and most of all, fun.

Audiences also have the chance to enjoy some food and drinks prior to the performance—wining and dining at the famous Shakespeare Kitchen is all part of the theater tradition on Lake Tahoe. If you wish to pre-order your food from the online menu, you can pick it up at a dedicated area without having to wait in line to order and pay.

Based on the night you attend, there are two different menus available. There is a “Complete Works” menu offering a fine selection of delicious dishes and appetizers. You can enjoy your meal in your seat in the amphitheater, or take advantage of the brand new dining area adjacent to the ‘kitchen’. Alternatively, there is a “Music Menu” complete with food in cups and on sticks for those who want to dance in the aisles while eating.

The Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival Company is a non-profit organization, dedicated to providing cultural enjoyment and enrichment for residents and visitors to the Lake Tahoe region. The Company’s aim is to plan, produce and advocate the best cultural events in the area, while educating future generations as to the importance of including music, theater, and art in everyday life. As part of an outreach program for local kids, there is also a Young Shakespeare program with performances specifically designed to engage younger children.

So bring the family along to enjoy some wonderful entertainment as the sun sinks across the water of Lake Tahoe.
