The 21st American Century
Golf Championship Tournament
Lake Tahoe South (July 13th - 18th, 2010)
Between July 13th and 18th, Lake Tahoe is likely to be inundated with a host of famous faces from the world of television, film, and sport. This year will be the 21st Anniversary of the American Century Championship and the organizers have promised the event will be filled with birdies, glitz and glamour.
The tournament is sponsored by American Century Investments and is network television’s longest running celebrity golf event. This year, and for the fifth year running, the official tournament charity is LIVESTRONG—the organization founded by Tour-de-France superstar and cancer survivor, Lance Armstrong. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $3 million for a host of charities both local and national.

Lake Tahoe South (July 13th - 18th, 2010) -- Continue
Some of the new faces to the world of celebrity golf this year include Jared Allen, the Minnesota Vikings’ All Pro, professional skateboarder Ryan Sheckler, former Major League Baseball All-Stars Greg Maddux and Mark Mulder, Brian Kelly Notre Dame Head Football Coach, and 2010 Olympic US Hockey Team captain Jamie Langenbrunner.
There will be lots of famous faces from the world of television and film including Don Cheadle, Craig T.Nelson, and Brian Baumgartner, plus Kevin Nealon and Alfonso Ribeiro holding up the ranks for the comedy contingent.
Tickets for the tournament, to be held at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course on the South Shore, are available in advance and daily on the gate. Ticket prices are $15 for the celebrity-amateur and practice rounds, and $25 for each tournament round on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Kids 10 and under go free with a paying adult.
There is $600,000 in prize money at stake during the tournament and the winner will pocket a massive $125,000. Not surprisingly, competition is likely to be fierce. Rick Rhoden is the eight times winner and defending champion, but he faces a difficult challenge from Dallas Cowboys’ Tony Romo, who finished in second place last year. There are also plenty of other competitors who are more than able to give Rhoden a run for his money.
With all the famous faces due in town, South Shore on Lake Tahoe is the place to be mid July. Athletes and celebrities will be arriving early to limber up for the event and post golfing matches there are likely to be some riotous parties and paparazzi induced frenzies.
So make a note in your diary and make sure you don’t miss out on the golfing event of the year in Lake Tahoe!
